The Day I Left Kolkata for a Better Job

If I could do anything over again I would like to reverse my decision of leaving my hometown Kolkata where my parents lived. Had I not left Kolkata my mother would have never ignored her health and overlooked the initial symptoms of cancer in her colon. Now that I do not have her by my side I have no other choice but to feel repentant of having left Kolkata. The next time I visited Kolkata was after I learnt that my mother got detected with Cancer. At that time I couldn’t leave my job and be with her as her treatment was expensive and I was the only earning member of my family.

The Worst Day of My Life

admin
Categories: Uncategorized

The hardest thing had to be done on the worst day of my life. It was the day when my Mother died. She had always been my best friend confidant and the only person in my family I could really open my heart to. I saw her lying cold and still in front of me that day and I knew the cancer that killed her would have made it worse for her if she had remained alive. It had already progressed to the metastasis stage and had affected her uterus, lungs, liver and kidney. My father was never a strong person and neither was my sister. Hence I had to go to the Hindu Crematorium with her on her final journey. Pushing her body, that was draped in a bright pink saree and covered with white sweet smelling jasmine flowers into the electric chimney was the hardest thing I had ever done in my life. This is a custom in Hindus where the body has to be cremated in fire. No hardship that I face in life can match up to that moment and the pain it brought to me.
